Major William Cage is a fictional character portrayed by Tom Cruise in the 2014 science fiction action film Edge of Tomorrow.
Cage begins the film as a US Army public affairs officer with no combat experience. He is thrust into a war against a powerful alien species known as Mimics. After attempting to blackmail a general, he's demoted, arrested, and sent to the front lines.
During his first and assumed last battle, Cage is exposed to the Mimics' blood, acquiring the ability to reset the day whenever he dies. This allows him to relive the same day repeatedly, learning from his mistakes and improving his combat skills.
